Near the Start Point
The course starts in the Sai Kung Peninsula which is on the north eastern part of Hong Kong (and to be more precise, north eastern part of the New Territories). This part of Hong Kong is the “countryside” and doesn’t really have hotels close by. However, the Pak Tam Chung Holiday Village and the Lady MacLehose Holiday Village, which are pretty basic, very cheap and a bit like a scout camp, are both near to the race start. However, they are very far away from the Finish.
At the City
There are numerous hotels on Hong Kong Island. Causeway Bay is bustling and full of shops and eateries – exactly how you would expect Hong Kong to be like!
Shatin district (New Territories)
The Shatin district in the New Territories is situated between the Start and Finish points and will take 20 to 30 minute by road transport to the Start and the Finish. However, Shatin is not a place that a tourist would generally visit so perhaps a better call may be to stay on Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong Island is where many of the tourist sites are.
Near the Finish Point
The finish point of the event is close to a town called Tsuen Wan in Kowloon (which is a 5 minute ride from the finish). There is the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) train service from Tsuen Wan to take you to different parts of Hong Kong.
Again, Tsuen Wan is not a place that a tourist would generally visit. Once you are dropped off in Tsuen Wan by the event’s shuttle bus), It will take about 40 minutes by taxi to get to Hong Kong (and cost about HK$200, US$30).
